June - August 2016
For the second year in a row, 59 Productions opened the Edinburgh International Festival with a spectacular public event, this time projecting onto Edinburgh Castle!
'Deep Time' celebrates Edinburgh and how it's landscape inspired 18th century geologist James Hutton to theorise 'Deep Time' - a work that provides our understanding of the true age of the Earth and it's formation over billions of years.
In this hugely ambitious show, I designed and animated a sequence depicting the beginning of the Universe, the formation of our solar system and the transformation of Earth from asteroid bombarded lava field to it's current habitable state. In another sequence, I depicted continental drift over 300 million years! The usual tools were at work, After Effects, C4d, as well as Element3D and lots of Trapcode Mir and Particular.
In addition to my design / animation role, l also created the After Effects pipeline that converted our compositions to direct mapped UV's for projection in D3.
Head over to the 59 Productions website for more information about the event and full list of design and crew teams.
